McKahn Wines began with a fifteen-year-old named Charles who cooked dinner for his family and asked if they could open a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon with the meal. His mother Denise hesitated — then said yes. They opened a 1997 Cabernet that had been sitting in the cellar for years. That evening changed something. Charles decided then and there that he wanted to dedicate his life to winemaking.

Years later, during a backyard conversation, Kevin McKahn asked a simple question: "What would it take to make some wine?" In 2014, that question became McKahn Wines — a family-owned Napa Valley winery built around Rhône-inspired varieties including Syrah, Viognier, Grenache, and Mourvèdre, alongside Cabernet Sauvignon. Tastings are hosted at The Caves at Soda Canyon in Napa, where the wines are made.

McKahn focuses on small-lot, site-driven wines sourced from premier vineyards across Northern California — Napa Valley, Sonoma, Russian River Valley, Monterey, and the Sierra Foothills. The portfolio is anchored by Rhône varieties, a reflection of Charles's time on California's Central Coast where he developed a deep appreciation for Syrah. The flagship 2022 Syrah earned 95 points; the Viognier 93 points.

Charles crafts wines meant for the table — wines that reward a good meal and honest conversation more than a tasting room setting. Every sourcing decision is driven by sustainability, with vineyard partners selected for their commitment to responsible farming as much as fruit quality.

Charles McKahn is owner and winemaker — trained at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in enology, with five formative years at Chappellet Winery under winemaker Phillip Titus, and a stint as winemaker at William Harrison Winery in Rutherford. He now also serves as winemaker at Titus Vineyards. Denise McKahn, his mother, is CEO and runs day-to-day operations — a 30-year wine industry veteran whose career spans Wente Vineyards and Concannon Vineyard. Kevin McKahn, his father, is a recently retired high voltage electrician who works in wine production and loves sharing the family's story with anyone who'll listen. Brittany McKahn brings a decade of luxury wine sales experience from Hudson Ranch, Kapcsándy, and Titus Vineyards, handling wine club and DTC operations.
