A classic California vintage, 2018 offered near-perfect spring and summer weather. Winter saw average rainfall setting the vines up for vigorous growth. The fruit was able to slowly mature during the cool summer. Though the crop was larger than average in Sonoma County, because of our dry farming practices, and the vines’ deep roots, the grapes retained lovely freshness, while offering depth and intensity.

Russian River Valley

Pinot Noir

There is a depth and darkness to this wine that is mesmerizing. On the nose, brooding layers of old growth forest floor, brambly thickets, graphite minerality and sea spray mingle with voluptuous aromas of boysenberry, huckleberry and elder berry. While the deep resonant flavors are echoed on the palate, they carry themselves with a dynamic grace, framed by sweet, juicy tannins and hints of burnt orange marmalade, mahogany and roasted chestnuts. To bring these flavors into perfect focus, we recommend decanting this wine.

More about the wine

The harvested material is immediately taken to André Heucq’s wine cellar and selected there, carefully destemmed and pressed. The mash is fermented both in stainless steel tanks and in oak barrels. After fermentation, this wine remains on the mash for 3 weeks. Finally, this white wine rests in oak barrels for a total of 16 months to gently round off.
